Editing Services

Whether you are self-publishing your novel or just need an essay proofread for school, I can help. I’ve edited (as of Spring 2022) more than two hundred books. My Master’s degree is in English, and I have taught college-level English for many years. I can handle any size job, from your blog post to your epic novel.

There are two flavors of editing that I offer:

Proofreading: Proofreading is about getting rid of the cosmetic errors– punctuation, spelling, and grammar problems. It is usually the last step in the writing/editing process. It’s not meant to be comprehensive; when you are proofreading, you shouldn’t be re-working text, or re-arranging content. Proofreading is about doing a last run-through to catch surface problems with the content. This is done quickly and is less expensive.

Copy Editing: Copy editing is about making sure there aren’t inconsistencies in your writing, and that the style flows well in addition to being grammatically correct. There are different levels of copy editing that you might desire: light copy editing might consist of double-checking accuracy and taking care of most grammatical issues. More intensive copy editing might include correcting flow and re-working some of the text, paragraphs, or heavily correct style, flow, and grammar.

Either way, I simply charge

$.006 per word (a little more than a half-cent per word)

For example, a 7,000-word short story or novelette would be $42, or a 120,000-word novel would be $720.

All payments are made through Paypal.com or Square.com. Email me to discuss any questions or to get an exact quote on your proofreading needs. Any work estimated under $20 should be paid in advance, larger jobs can be pro-rated or broken up as necessary.
